An "elf" named Chantel helps families with their souvenir pictures at the Black Santa's Grotto experience on December 16, 2023 in London, England. The annual "Noir Kringle" Black Santa's Grotto experience was created by Charlotte Lewis in 2017 after she looked online for a Christmas Grotto that featured a Black Santa, to which she could take her young daughter, but nothing UK-based came up. Charlotte was born and raised by Black British parents of Jamaican heritage in South East London and has always loved Christmas. She says that all children deserve to have the option to see a reflection of themselves in such traditions, as the formative years are so crucial to how we view ourselves.
